There’s something magical about a winter wedding

There’s something magical about a winter wedding

There’s something magical about a winter wedding, which is why Toronto bridal stores are extra busy during this time of year. If you are also considering a winter wedding, here are some hot trends that will spice up your big day.

#1. Nature-Inspired Invitations and Programs
For many people, winter is a quiet time for them to connect with nature. Brides these days are recognizing this in their invitations and programs by choosing wood grain paper in gold or silver font to add an elegant touch. Invitations may also be mailed in flannel-lined envelopes for added warmth. Blue and white glittery invitations with snowflake motifs continue to be top sellers at bridal shops in Toronto as well.

#2. The Use of Evergreen
Evergreen is increasingly being used in winter weddings for everything from the bride’s bouquet to decorating the cake. Use evergreen sprigs along with a few pine cones and holly berries to create an eye-catching centerpiece for your guest tables. Hang some wreaths decorated with ribbon in your bridal colors on the walls inside the church where your ceremony is being held. Smaller evergreen sprigs could even be used as pew markers for the bride and groom’s family.

#3. Unique Cake and Beverage Choices
Couples who are marrying during the winter months are now choosing more elaborate cake flavors rather than plain vanilla, which is much lighter and therefore better suited for summer weddings. Some of the most popular flavors right now are exotic ones such as caramel spice, raspberry custard, or champagne cream. Flavored hot beverages such as cider or latte are also being offered to guests rather than traditional frozen punches. A hot chocolate bar could even be ideal for a more casual wedding, especially one that’s being held outdoors.

#4. Comfort Food for the Reception
Just as heavier cake flavors are popular during the winter, so is “comfort food” for the reception. Rather than having light sandwiches or fruit, those marrying in colder weather are now choosing to have tried-and-true favorites such as fried chicken, pot pie, or macaroni and cheese for their reception instead. Brides and grooms who still prefer finger foods are going with hot sandwiches such as the Rueben or pulled pork rather than choosing cold cuts.

#5. Warm Accessories for the Bride
Women who visit bridal boutiques in Toronto are now choosing warm accessories to accent their gowns. Fur or faux fur wraps are often seen adorning the shoulders of brides who choose outdoor winter weddings, but they may also be worn as the bride and groom are leaving the reception enroute to their honeymoon. Casual brides may even choose crocheted ponchos or colorful, flannel wraps with their wedding dress as well.

These are just a few of the winter wedding trends we’re seeing right now. If you’re planning a winter wedding, keep in mind that you have greater flexibility in planning even the smallest detail, so feel free to let your imagination run wild.
